How to Recruit for Network Marketing

Building a Successful Networking Marketing Business

If you are hard selling or convincing your prospect to join you in your networking business are doing it all wrong. Building a successful networking marketing business is not about selling its about education.

Unfortunately many people in the network marketing industry make the mistake of applying sales techniques to “Close the Sale” forcing the prospect into purchasing and wondering why they are failing.

The Guided Close

Going for a guided close takes place during direct, person-to-person conversation which might be on the phone, or at the end of a meeting.

Your prospect will have already sat through a presentation, and now you are moving in for the sale and to “close” the deal… it’s decision time.

Many pros have this down pat and have a response for every objection. They are also armed with a a list of their prospects desires, their wish list, and their emotional triggers which they acquired from previous “interview” conversations.

The prospect will then be systematically “guided” down a path that leads to a purchase.

If you are skilled at the guided close, that prospect is going to “buy” today whether they want to or not. However, it is NOT the best way to keep a sale on the books as the person is buying for all the wrong reasons which most definitely leads to buyer’s remorse shortly after.

There are several reasons why the guided approach doesn’t work and it comes down to one primary piece of psychology:

“A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still”

Many times during a guided sale, the prospects emotions will be flowing at fever pitch leaving them no time to think logically which is the recipe that always leads to a sale which is why this method is the primary tool of choice for direct response marketers.

This “heart only” approach is extremely effective, but counter-productive for building a successful network marketing business because you are not making a one-time sale…

You are looking for the years of commitment it will take to build a successful network marketing business.

Unfortunately, when those emotions dissipate and logic sets in, the person may regret the decision they made and they usually end up quitting within days or weeks.

The Volutary Close

If you want to be successful at network marketing you will have to master what I call the voluntary close. This is where your prospect will “sell themselves” and make the decision to purchase on their own.

The primary difference between the two is that the prospect is not put on the spot or asked to make a decision to purchase by you directly on a phone call or in person.

This allows the prospects head to catch up with their heart so they can make a “whole” decision. Which leads to a “voluntary purchase” decision where they are fully commited.

In other words you don’t convince your prospects to buy. Rather you want them to convince themselves to buy, and then voluntarily make the purchase when the time is right for them.

Once they make their choice, it will be much more concrete and in order to stay congruent with that choice, they will work much harder and stay dedicated longer because “it was their idea”.

This is achieved indirectly through tools and marketing instead of direct personal pressure.

Yes, you are still are going to push those same emotional buttons, and you are still going to ask for a decision, but you are not going to do it directly through personal conversation.

Here’s a Guideline to Follow:

You must be completely willing to let a sale go.

1: A lead is generated and a quick introductory phone call is made so they know that you are a real person and to start your “interview process”. It is your call. Ask them a few questions, to find out if they are someone you want to personally work with. Find a reason NOT to work with them or sell them product because the wrong customers/partners will cost you MUCH more than you’ll ever make in the long run…

Your valuable time!

2: If you like the person and they have passed your initial interview process give them the address to a guided business overview via email and then instruct them verbally and in the email to contact you when they’re done.

Because they came though a capture page when they became a lead, they are already in your marketing pipeline.

At this point, the ball is completely in your court.

NEVER chase people. You are too busy for that and chasing money sounds like desperation and that rings LOUD and CLEAR. Think of your business in a state of abundance (whether it is or not). There is no neediness to chase sales.

NEVER schedule follow-up calls on your prospect’s terms.  They MUST call you when you feel like doing so. If you’re positioning yourself correctly, they will be excited and feel privileged that you contacted them.

(This is something pretty foreign to most who deal with prospects who never return their phone calls and voicemails).

3: Once they do contact you, they’re going to have some questions which you will answer in a very friendly manner.

For the rest of the call, remain silent.

Don’t ask them to get started and don’t try to keep the conversation going.

Dead spots in a conversation ARE AWKWARD. You want to make them feel off-balance and then force them to fill the dead air.

Your attitude is that you called me to ask me some questions which I will answer, and that’s it. Anything else that we discuss is up to you.

Because you’re unwilling to keep the conversation going or try to talk them into getting started, you are in the position of power.

In any relationship, the person who cares the least holds the power.

So I’m just going to answer their questions and then sit there. They’re testing me and my leadership frame whether they realize it or not.

And you know what happens 9 times out of 10 because you didn’t take the bait and chased them.

They fill that awkward silence with statements like, “So what’s next? How do I get started?”

Now in order for this method to work, you must TRULY see yourself as a leader and live in a mindset of abundance. If you don’t and you’re just pretending to act this way on a phone call, they will see straight through it.

You cannot pretend in anyway. You must truly live and believe that mindset.

Tips for Building a Big Network Marketing Downline

Building Your Core Team

Choosing your Core Team will be one of the most important tasks you will undertake to build a successful network marketing business

To grow a solid network marketing downline you must build your “Core Team”.

Your core team are your active business builders and emerging leadership.

Without your core team in place you will never attain the time freedom and lifestyle that a well developed MLM can offer.

You will just have created another 100 hour per week job for yourself.

What is a Core Team?

Your core team will ideally consist of between 6 and 12 members. If there are more than 12 then it is time to break up into smaller groups to encourage full participation. As the number of core teams grows the leadership of the different core teams can be guest presenters at other core team events.

Each core team will have a mixture of attributes, personality types and positive outlook. Great leaders know they are not good at everything so they surround themselves with a core team to overcome this.

Open communication within the core team will promote rapport, trust and a strong “bond” that will allow them to meet difficulties and changes head on. They will definitely have a proactive rather than reactive nature as they seek to better themselves and the team.

As the bond get stronger the team will take on a dynamic nature. Quantum physics suggests that when a “group dynamic” occurs the total out put of the group will always exceed the sum of the total individuals out-put.

This has certainly been my experience.

Starting a Momentum Phase

So what are some things you can do to take your core team to the next level and start a momentum phase in your business?

  1. It is important to treat each core team member as a significant individual to foster participation. Without participation no change occurs and no growth occurs and no leadership develops.
  2. Put some concrete Standards and Boundaries in place to provide a safe and supportive environment without judgement for your core team to share ideas and voice concerns that are crucial for growth.
  3. Have a Team Goal. This is very important. Having a Team Goal is a terrific way to foster increased communication, cooperation and creativity among your team members. A cohesive team that is happily working for towards a common goal for the team is the dream of every leader as it will always out produce one that doesn’t have it together.
  4. When holding core team gatherings it is essential to be very clear about the goals for the day and provide a time for reflection, evaluation and recapping of the meeting.
  5. Make sure that above all you have fun - without fun you may as well stay doing what you are currently doing.

BetterNetworker.com UPDATE

BetterNetworker.com is up and running and it is by far the best “attraction marketing” website that I have used. It has created more leads faster than any of the other sites I have been using such as HubPages, Squidoo, Digg, etc etc.

Set Up BetterNetworker

If you haven’t already set up your “member page” at BetterNetworker.com I suggest you do it now. Simply opening another screen and do each of the steps as my good friend Mike Klingler is doing them in the video below. That way you’ll have your BetterNetworker.com member site up and running by the time you have finshed watching this short video.

If you haven’t heard the name Mike Dillard and MagneticSponsoring.com it’s most likely that you haven’t been online for any length of time.

Along with a handful of others Mike has pioneered attraction marketing on and off the web. With the magneticsponsoring.com website he has also been responsible for paving the way for many thousands of people to build their businesses online using attraction marketing methods.

He has authored and co-authored many great books Magnetic Sponsoring, MLM Traffic Formula, Building on a Budget and Black Belt Recruiting.

I have just seen a peak of what is coming and I gotta say I am very excited with the changes Mike has instore for his existing MagneticSponsoring.com community. The website has been completely revamped and redesigned from scratch - AND - Renamed!

The new name is BetterNetworker.com

It has taken Mike and his team just over 6 months to build, BetterNetworker.com on a completely new platform. The new look Better Network platform offers not only a fresh new look and blistering super fast speed. It also has many new Web 2.0 features. On the drawing board for release in the near future are seamless intergration with FaceBook, MySpace and IPhone. This will give the new platform some extra clout and great functionality for a free system.

While the look and feel of the new site will change the benefits of being part of a free interactive site will not. Why change what is working. The forum, blogs, and specialist training from industry leaders will still be a feature.

Consistent Daily Action Moves Alexa Rating

The Power of Blogs

It has taken a while but I finally did it - I’ve read about the power of blogs for years.

This week I saw it in action as I started to make regular posts to my blog. Last week it rated 2,890,498 on Alexa. This week as I write it is 1,933,146.

I believe the “key” for me was including my blog updates as part of my consistent daily action plan.

The 80/20 Rule strikes again

When I first started networking I really wasn’t commited to the process and really only viewed it as a part-time thing I was doing. The lights started to come on when I did an analysis of my time verses my return for effort.

Here’s what I found ….

I was wasting 80% of the time I had allocated to my MLM business. I say wasting because I was not getting a return for my effort. The things I was spending 20% of my time on were giving me a return.

So putting on my Entrepenueural hat I thought I could really turn this around if I just spent more of the 80% doing the 20%

My consistent daily action includes:-

  1. Speak with at least 2 people a day and if they fit my criteria invite them to have a look at my opportunity
  2. Do the necessary stuff that keeps my “prospect funnell” full
  3. Follow up - the fortune is in the follow up
  4. Train my new members / customers and get them started right
  5. Building my core team and coaching / supporting them to success
  6. Me time - personal development at least 20 minutes / day

Don’t forget to post your comments on tips on consistant daily actions below

How to Use MySpace for Attraction Marketing

The Future Of Marketing On The Web

MySpace is one of many online communities where if your know what you are doing you can meet and connect with your future network marketing business partners.

Initially I only went to share ideas, photos, interests and to generally “connect” with the members. MySpace is a very popular community so don’t be surprised to find others you already know using Myspace such as

  • Friends who just want to talk online and connect their friends with other friends
  • Family members who also just want to connect and keep in touch
  • Business associates and co-workers interested in networking
  • Old classmates and/or long lost friends

Originally I thought that MySpace was just for kids however, nothing could be further from the truth as I found out, there are people from all walks of life using MySpace. All things considered it should be apparent to you by now that MySpace could be an excellent place for online networking as people are there for the propose of interacting chatting and sharing - just the mode we want them in to open up and share their hopes dreams and aspirations.

To do networking online successfully using MySpace there are several things you need to consider.

Who Do You Want to Connect With?

When using MySpace to find potential business partners for your network marketing business it is very important to know who you want to connect with to grow your team. If you haven’t already done so it is a good idea to have a written list of the attributes that your ideal business partner will have. If you don’t know who you want to connect with or what their attributes are you won’t find them. A bit like if you don’t know where you are going when you jump in your car it is fair chance you probably won’t get where you want to go.

Before making a decision on whether to work MySpace as a lead source for your network marketing business it is wise to spend some time doing some research to find out if there are a large number of the individuals who you want to attract into your business actually spending time there. If you don’t do this first you may end up investing your time and energy in designing your website only to find there are not enough members whom you want to network with.

How Do You Find Those Who You Want to Connect With?

So how do you find this out? Now you know the attributes of those who you are looking to connect with online through MySpace it is time to start finding these individuals. The search feature is the best place to start. But before doing this you need to compile a list of keywords that describe or are most likely to be used on the MySpace websites of the members you would like to meet. By searching for these keywords you will locate those who share your interests.

Another great way to locate possible business partners on MySpace is to visit your friends MySpace websites and see who their friends are. Those who you already consider to be friends are likely share some of your interests. Likewise many of their existing friends may also share your interests as well putting you in contact with many more people who might be potential friends and or contact for you. This also works when you have located potential business partners in MySpace. Go visit their friends.

What Next?

Now you are connecting the next step is to build trust. There is some social guidelines for connecting online. Which  incidently are the same as when you are offline. For example in your first meeting it is considered “bad form” to back up the truck and “dump” your ideas or views or products with the only outcome being a sale of a product. If you did this at a party or offline gathering you would soon get the cold shoulder. This is also the case online. However the result is more sever as you will likely be blacklisted and kicked out of MySpace altogether.

Not a good result for all your hard work.

So the major tip is just take it slowly and build the trust. Offer value and be of service. If you do that they will come in there droves because they will see you as the leader they would be insprired to follow.

Become a leader
True leaders don’t develop people’s beliefs in the leader, they develop the belief in the follower.

If you get this….. everyone will follow…. and they’ll love you for it.
